Pontefract Collieries let a half-time lead slip as they had to settle for a point from Saturday’s Toolstation NCE Premier League game at home to Albion Sports.
Nick Handley’s men looked on course for a morale-boosting victory after letting in six the previous week against Cleethorpes Town and then going down 5-2 at Liversedge in the West Riding County Cup in midweek when goals from Liam Radford and Craig Rouse proved in vain.
Although Marcus Edwards put Albion ahead in the 11th minute Colls responded well with Aaron Moxam netting his 12th goal of the season to make it 1-1 on 28 minutes.
Rouse then made it 2-1 six minutes later and it stayed the same score through to the break.
But Ponte failed to add to their tally in the second half and were pegged back when Alex Cusack was on target for the visitors on 50 minutes.
The Colls defence did hold firm for the remainder and they were able to bag a useful point from their efforts against top 10 opponents to stay in 16th place with at least one game in hand on all six teams below them.
Ponte are in action again tonight at home to Retford United and are at home again this Saturday when hosting Rainworth MW (kick-off 3pm), who are enjoying a good season in the Premier, currently in seventh.
In a busy period for the club they face a quick return with Albion Sports when away to them in the league next Wednesday (kick-off 7.45pm).
