Pontefract Collieries made a winning start to 2015 with a battling display at home to Hall Road Rangers on Saturday.
A 2-0 success saw them climb back up to sixth place in Division One of the Toolstation NCE League and close to within one point of the top three ahead of their scheduled game at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway tonight (7.45pm kick-off).
A busy spell continues with an away trip to Winterton Rangers this Saturday (kick-off 3pm) then another midweek match next Wednesday when Colls take on leaders AFC Emley in a huge contest.
With five games in 15 days and two more before the end of the month January is shaping up as a crucial period for Collieries’ promotion hopes and they will be looking to utilise all their squad to keep players as fresh as possible.
They made a great start to the month with a second successive home win and clean sheet against Hall Road Rangers.
Recent signing Aaron Moxam put Pontefract ahead on 37 minutes and they led 1-0 at half-time.
Mark Whitehouse then made sure of the points when he made it 2-0 on 73 minutes and Colls saw out the remainder of the game comfortably enough for a solid victory that kept them within eight points of table toppers Emley with a game in hand.
Pontefract’s away game with Hall Road Rangers, which was postponed because of a frozen pitch on December 27, has now been rearranged for Tuesday, February 10 with a 7.45pm kick-off.
