Pontefract Collieries’ preparations for their new season back in the Premier Division of the NCE League have been given a boost with their first new signings and five players from the promotion winning side committing themselves to the club.
Colls have added to their striker ranks with the signing of Liversedge forward Vaughan Redford, who has played a big part in Liversedge’s improved results in the NCE Premier in the last two years, scoring 19 goals last season.
His older brother Warren formerly played for Ponte when Brendan Ormsby was manager.
Current assistant manager Craig Rouse said: “Vaughan has been a long term target of ours and is a lad we are delighted to get on board.
“We’ve followed his progress over the last two years and we are pleased he has chosen his local club as the place to continue his progression.
“Despite his young age he has attracted a lot of interest from non-league clubs so we are obviously pleased that he saw his immediate future with us.”
Pontefract have also announced a second new signing with defender Macauley Parkinson joining from Frickley Athletic.
Colls are delighted to have persuaded the player to step down two divisions after he has spent the last three seasons in the Evo-Stik Premier League. He also lists higher league Guiseley and Ossett Town among his previous clubs.
Colls have retained the services of their young player of the year, Kane Reece, who has agreed to stay with the Pontefract club for the 2017-18 season. It will be the third season at the club for the 21-year-old midfielder who contributed 10 goals in the promotion-winning campaign.
He has joined Mikey Dunn in committing to the club. Last season’s top scorer proved a big hit after coming out of local football where he has been a similar success with Sunday side Ferrybridge Progressive.
In his first full campaign in semi-professional football he scored 28 goals, including the decisive second in the final day win at Worsbrough Bridge that clinched promotion.
Colls are also delighted to retain the services of young right-back Jack Greenhough who also enjoyed a superb first season in semi-professional football, winning Ponte’s players’ player of the year and supporters’ player of the year awards. Other defenders to commit for next season are Spencer Clarke and Jimmy Williams, who were key players last term.
Two players from last season’s promotion winning team – striker Chris Wood and defender Paul Haigh – have left.
