​Pontefract Collieries U17s have been flying the flag for West Yorkshire nationally and enjoying a fantastic finish to their outstanding season.

The impressive youngsters have come up with a four trophy haul after a campaign that just went from strength to strength.

They capped it all when making it through to the Junior Premier League's National Champions Tournament, which saw them compete against fellow league winners St Albans and Macclesfield FC and emerge as winners.

Colls were crowned national champions when they easily brushed St Albans aside 5-0 then went on to beat Macclesfield 3-2.

The Ponte team qualified for the tournament by winning the Yorkshire League and in an incredible year of success they also triumphed in the National Cup and the Northern Cup.

In the Northern Cup final they demolished Stockton Town 7-1 and the Yorkshire League title was clinched in a thrilling match against Ossett United when they defied having 10 men for 40 minutes in a come from behind 3-1 success.

It was then onto the National Cup final when another incredible display saw Ponte bang in five goals in the first half on their way to a 7-1 victory over Elite Sports in a game played at Macclesfield FC.

Callum Reynolds set the ball rolling with the first two goals, Tom Joynt put away two penalties and Joel Learmouth was also on target in the dominant first half.

Further goals followed after the break from James Brear and Elliott Pollard.

More success at junior level has come the Pontefract club’s way with the Colls U14s girls reaching the West Riding FA County Cup final when they defeated Tingley Athletic Stripes 4-2.

The U12s girls also reached the semi-finals of the country cup.

Ponte Colls’ senior side, meanwhile, have had their league status confirmed for next season when they will again compete in the Northern Premier League East.

Up against them in a 20-team division will be Ashington, Belper Town, Bridlington Town, Brighouse Town, Carlton Town, Cleethorpes Town, Consett, Dunston, Grantham Town, Grimsby Borough, Hebburn Town, Liversedge, Newton Aycliffe, North Ferriby, Ossett United, Sheffield, Stocksbridge Park Steels, Stockton Town, Winterton Rangers.

The 2023-24 season is set to get under way on Saturday, August 12 with the last regular season game to be played on April 27.

Play-offs are due to take place on April 30 and May 4.
