Welfare’s first pre-season match on Saturday

Northern Counties East Football League club Glasshoughton Welfare FC have resumed full training under new manager Mick Norbury and assistant Phil Lindley.

The club’s committee members have been busy tidying up the Leeds Road ground.

Welfare’s first pe-season friendly is this Saturday when they visit Sherburn White Rose (2pm).

Next Tuesday, Glasshoughton host Ossett Albion (7.30pm) and then on Saturday, July 18, they visit AFC Askern Welfare ( 3pm).

In the FA cup extra preliminary round, Welfare host Runcorn Linnetts from the North West Counties Premier League on Saturday, August 15 (3pm). The winners will be home to Penistone Church or Pontefract Collieries.

In the first qualifying round of the FA vase, Welfare have been drawn away to Liverpool based Vauxhall Motors. The game will be played on Saturday, September 5 (3pm)

The club have appointed Garry Willis as commercial manager.

Meanwhile, Knottingley Albion JFC will stage their annual gala day this Saturday at De Lacy Academy, Knottingley.

It is set to atttact a bumper crowd with there being no Knottingley Carnival this year.

It starts at 10am, with soccer matches for under nines, under 10s and under 11s.

Teams from all over Yorkshire will be taking part,

Attractions include bouncy castles, stalls, hot food and an ice cream van.
