Two goals each from forwards Chris Wood and Mikey Dunn helped Pontefract Collieries to another win in Division One of the Toolstation NCE League.
The 4-2 home success lifted Colls up to second place in the table with games in hand on all the teams immediately below them.
With Knaresborough Town losing 1-0 at Eccleshill United, Pontefract’s victory over Dronfield Town took them to the second promotion spot on goal difference and they have now scored 34 goals in their first 10 matches with only one defeat so far.
It was actually 2-2 with 15 minutes remaining, but Wood and Dunn ensured maximum points for Colls after earlier putting them ahead twice.
Remarkably all the goals came in the second half after Ponte had been frustrated in the opening 45 minutes.
Wood opened the scoring five minutes into the second period before Ryan Ruddiforth hit back for Dronfield within two minutes to make it 1-1.
Dunn’s first put the hosts back ahead on 67 minutes only for their opponents to level again almost immediately, Callum Mawbey getting their second equaliser.
However, two goals in four minutes from Wood and Dunn, taking their goals tally for the season up to 14 and 13 respectively, sealed Colls’ seventh league success of the campaign and they have closed to within one point of leaders Penistone Church, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Campion last Saturday.
Colls are back in action tonight when they face a tough match away to third-placed Winterton Rangers (kick-off 7.45pm).
They are on their travels again to play mid-table Hall Road Rangers this Saturday (kick-off 3pm) and are also in action at their Harratts Nissan Stadium next Tuesday in another league game when they host Eccleshill United, kick-off 7.45pm.
