Keara Bennett made history for Pontefract and District Cricket League club Featherstone Town by becoming the first woman to play in a senior side in the club’s 97 year history.
Sporting all rounder Keara held her own in the field and finished with four not out in a recent game against Brook Walton 2nds.
Keara is also a keen rugby league and union player and has kept wicket in the club’s junior sides as well as opening the batting.
Everyone at Featherstone is proud of the club’s thriving junior section.
Featherstone 2nds lost by six wickets to their Glasshoughton counterparts in last Saturday’s Division Five match.
Stuart Hardaker (55) and Jack Hiorns (39) steered Featherstone to 181-6 which Glasshoughton overhauled in 33.4 overs thanks to Jordan Whipp (81 retired not out) and Tony Gale (46).
Hiorns was Featherstonre’s best bowler with 2-35 from eight overs.
There was no play in Fairburn’s home game against Frickley Colliery.
Old Sharlston conceded their Division Six fixture at Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
All the other matches in the division were abandoned without a ball being bowled.
In Division Seven East, Hundhill Hall’s home game against Ferrybridge Power Station was washed out, as was Thorpe Audlin’s fixture at Askern.
Allerton Bywater won by seven wickets at leaders Notton in Division Seven West.
Matthew Nordon (24) and John Barton (14) gave Notton a solid start before Matthew Thompson (3-28 from 10 overs), Matt Weaver (3-17 from nine) and Max Booth (2-2 from 2.2) sent them reeling from 40-1 to 80 all out.
Dale Johnson (24no) top-scored in Allerton’s successful reply.
Paul Wadsworth (21no), Thompson (18) and Danny Hutchinson (15) were the other main contributors.
