Methley's Hamid Khan hit a rapid 82.

A CENTURY stand involving openers Nick Connolly and Hamid Khan ensured Methley easily reached the target set by opponents Wakefield St Michaels in their Premier Division game in the Central Yorkshire League on Saturday.

Set 189 for victory, John Rickers’ title chasers made light work of their task as they got home in just 26.4 overs.

Khan hammered 13 fours and three sixes as he blitzed his way to 82 off just 59 balls while Connolly was steadier, but still in good form to contribute 46 to an opening wicket stand of 137 in only 17.2 overs.

It was then a formality for Connolly and Kris Ward to complete the job with an unbroken second wicket partnership of 54, Connolly finishing not out on 67, having hit 11 boundaries, and Ward unbeaten on 25.

Wakefield had earlier won the toss and elected to bat on a damp wicket, but after Ryan Hercules had to initially retire hurt the early promise of 57-1 evaporated as they were reduced to 94-6.

But when Hercules came back in he joined Simon Stirling and the pair put on 80 for the seventh wicket in good time to take the score up to a respectable 188-7.

Stirling was out for 50 while Hercules remained not out on 44 off just 39 balls. Chris Leaf, Simon Purdy and Connolly all claimed two wickets each, but in failing to bowl their opponents out Methley were unable to collect a maximum six points and therefore slipped further behind leaders Wrenthorpe. They also lost second place to New Farnley, who are a point above them.

Methley B eased fears of finishing bottom in CYL Division Four as they comfortably beat Adwalton A.

An excellent knock of 82 down the order from Govind Mahey set up the win as he helped Methley recover from 88-5 to 248. There were good contributions too from Jacob Wright (44), Kieron Holliday (36), Danny Wilbur (27) and Jamie Buttery (19).

Adwalton were never in contention in their reply as they lost their first wicket without a run on the board and were five down for 25.

They were eventually all out for 81 with Wright taking four wickets and Daniel Bridges three.
