Methley maintained their 11-match unbeaten run in the Premiership of the Central Yorkshire League, but surprisingly failed to pick up maximum points against bottom of the table Hunslet Nelson.

In their third meeting in eight days with Nelson they had little trouble making it their third win when they got home with nine wickets to spare, but failed to bowl their opponents out so had to settle for four points instead of six.

After being put in, Hunslet were soon in trouble at 29-3 and dug in, setting their stall out to bat through their 50 overs. They achieved this, although their 118-8 total was never going to test Methley.

Opener Tommy Roy batted 98 balls for 42 and Joe Smith survived 88 balls, making 23, while Methley tried eight bowlers with Matthew Waite (2-10) the most successful.

In their reply Methley took just 29.1 overs to reach their target with Richard Foster (64) and Marcus Walmsley (45 not out) combining for an 109-run opening stand.

Townville moved up to second place and eight points behind Methley with a three-wicket win at Hopton Mills.

A low scoring game saw Hopton all out for 123 after being put in with Richie Bresnan taking 3-19, Jack Hughes 3-27 and Conor Harvey 3-17.

But Townville’s batsmen did not find the pitch easy either as they went from 50 without loss to 67-4 after Matt Bremner (37) and Kris Ward (18) were dismissed.

It needed a stand of 48 for the fifth wicket to steady the ship with Jonny Booth hitting 25 and Harvey 27.

In contrast to the first team game, Townville A’s match against Batley A in the Second XI Premier was a high scoring affair with a thrilling finish.

After opting to bat first Townville piled up a massive 261-5 in their 50 overs with good efforts from Steve Walton (72), Kieron Samuels (68) and Andy Ward (67).

Batley had a good go in their run chase only to fall seven runs short in finishing on 254-8 with Martin Duck (3-60) the pick of the Townville bowlers.

Methley A slipped to the bottom of the Second XI Premier after being bowled out for 109 on the way to a six-wicket defeat to Buttershaw St Paul’s A. Greg Johnson (29), James Gahan (27) and David Winter (23) top scored while Kieron Holliday took 2-21.
