TEN-year-old Remik Serafin (pictured), who trains at Featherstone-based Phantoms Kickboxing Club, was a medal winner in his first-ever martial arts tournament.

Remik, who has been training in martial arts for only seven months, made his competition debut in semi contact points fighting and light continuous kickboxing disciplines.

In his points fighting section, he won his first fight convincingly and lost his second fight by a narrow margin.

His success came in the light continuous section. He lost out in the semi final to the eventual winner and then fought for third place.

Five-year-old Cory Davis also represented the club. He fought bravely in both disciplines but despite winning his first two rounds he was defeated in the quarterfinals and narrowly missed out on the medals.

The pair train under 5th Dan black belt Gavin Hughes at St Thomas Church Hall, Featherstone, every Tuesday and Thursday. Anyone interested in joining the class can contact Gavin on 07502397862.
