Ledsham’s first game in the Wetherby League’s top flight did not go according to plan as they suffered an eight-wicket defeat to Rufforth.
Following promotion to Division One, Ledsham were hoping to get off to a winning start, but their batsmen were made to struggle after a decent enough start.
Opener Oliver Baron hit 42 and received support initially from Andy Baron (12) and Freddie Dewhirst (10) before the innings fell away alarmingly. None of the bottom five in the order could contribute a run as Ledsham were all out for 87.
Rufforth had no trouble reaching the small target, losing just two wickets to Johnny Smales and William Day.
Following their promotion to Division Two Kippax Welfare made a winning start as they beat Crossgates by 45 runs.
Museji Bhoola top scored with 43 while Aamir Malik hit 27 and there were useful runs from late order men Jamie Wills (23) and Imran Mohammed Pandor (19) as Kippax made 189.
Crossgates were kept to 144-7 in reply with Bhoola following up his batting exploits with 3-26 and Sharaz Ali taking 2-23.
Paul Rhodes hit a century in an opening day win for Kippax Welfare A against Kirk Hammerton A in Division Four.
On the back of Rhodes’ unbeaten 127 plus 58 by Tom Eastwood and 32 from Lee Thompson, Kippax made 271-6. They then came close to bowling their opponents out as they ended on 74-8, Ahmed Dokrat taking 4-19.
Ledsham A lost their opening game in Division Four by 10 wickets after being bowled out for 90 by Rufforth A with Paul Dewhirst (31) and Thomas Delmont (25) top scoring.
