Bailey fills in to help YMCA team beat club mates

YMCA A suffered a first defeat of the season in the Castleford, Pontefract & District Table Tennis League as they went down 6-4 to club mates YMCA D who had to borrow Bailey Pye from the E team to fill in.

Peter Hugill lost to Bailey over four sets and to Phil Cawser over three, but went on to beat Gordon Cooper in five. Steve Morris achieved the best results for the home side, beating Bailey over four and Gordon over three, but lost to Phil in three. Rob Connell also lost to Bailey over four sets and Phil in three but beat Gordon in four. In the doubles Peter and Rob lost to Bailey and MOM Phil over five close sets.

YMCA C drew 5-5 with Knottingley A.

Paul Dykes lost to Alan Yip over four sets and conceded to Tim Condon due to time factors, but beat Dennis Shaw over four.

Jamie Rusling lost to Alan over four sets, but beat both Dennis and Tim in three. Barry Johnson lost to Alan over five sets and to Tim in three, but beat Dennis in four. Paul and Jamie beat Alan and Tim over five sets.

Phil Cawser beat Neil Cooper over three sets, Gordon Cooper in four and Elana McClements over three in YMCA D’s 7-3 win over Knottingley B.

Marcus Hookham lost to Phil and Gordon over three, but came from two down to beat Elana. Dave Cooper also lost to Phil and Gordon in three, but beat Elana convincingly over three. Phil and Gordon beat Neil and Dave in the doubles in three.

Knottingley B were beaten 10-0 by YMCA B as Neil Cooper, Bob McNaught and Dennis Shaw, borrowed from the A team, were all outplayed and beaten over three sets each by Graham Wylie, Chris Inman and John Keegan. Neil and Bob lost the doubles to Graham and John over four sets.

YMCA E won 8-2 against C Station A with captain Bailey Pye leading from the front, beating Keith Lumb, Andy Adams and Richard Fry over three sets.

Jamie Rusling lost to Keith over four, but beat Andy and Richard both in three. Barry Johnson also lost to Keith over five close sets, but beat Andy over four and Richard in three. Bailey and Jamie beat Andy and Richard over four in the doubles.
