Brain smashes two club records at Scunthorpe

Pontefract Athletics Club’s Callum Brain set two club records in a Division One match in the Yorkshire and District Athletics League at Cleethorpes.

Callum won the under 15 boys discus with a throw of 25.51 metres to claim his first record.

He then won the shot putt with 9.70 metres to enter the record book for the second time.

Club captain Will Carter won all three of his events in the under 17 men’s age group.

He recorded a personal best of 9.32 metres to win the shot putt and followed that with 28.47 metres in the discus to win that event.

His third victory came in the 400 metres with a time of 59.1 seconds.

Lewis Schofield won the under 15 boys javelin with 26.67 metres and he also won the 80 metres hurdles with a personal best of 14.6 seconds.

Will Godridge had a good throw to win the under 15 boys hammer with 25.66 metres.

He was also a close second to Callun Brain in the shot putt with 9.51 metres and second in the discus with 23.80 metres.

Cameron Howes won the under 13 boys 75 metres hurdles in 15.6 seconds.

He was also second in the long jump with 4.18 metres.

In the under 13 girls age group, Maria Schofield produced another outstanding performance to win the shot putt with a throw of exactly eight metres.

She also won the long jump with 3.52 metres.

Amy Brain won the 150 metres in 23.2 seconds and she also won the 800 metres in two minutes 48.4 seconds.

Another outstanding victory came from Catherine Whitworth in the under 13 girls high hump, just one centimetre short of the club record with 1.34 metres.

Emily Carter won the under 15 girls discus with 15.35 metres and Sophie Gilbert came first in the under 17 ladies 200 metres in 29.7 seconds.

Pontefract AC finished second in the match behind Skyrac A with Pudsey and Bramley/Bradford Airedale third and Longwood Harriers fourth.

In last Saturday’s Pontefract Park Run, Scott Daly finished seventh out of 165, clocking 18 minutes 47 seconds for the 5K distance.

Christine McCarthy finished second in the women’s race in 21-37.
