Cameron finishes fifth in national championships

Pontefract's Julia Rutkowska was in good form.

PONTEFRACT Athletics Club’s Cameron Howes finished fifth in the under 17 men’s high jump in the England Athletics Championships at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

Howes achieved a clearance of 1.81 metres.

In the Wakefield indoor open meeting, Will Carter set a club record of 9.5 seconds in the senior men’s 50 metres hurdles.

He also clocked 6.9 seconds in the 50 metres sprint and he achieved 5.74 metres in the long jump.

Anthony Bowyer clocked 7.0 seconds in the 50 metres.

Anthony then competed in the Sale Harriers open meeting at Manchester where he clocked one minute, 36.45 seconds in the 600 metres, which established a Pontefract club record for the distance.

He also recorded 8.14 seconds in the 60 metres sprint.

Jordan White recorded 6.8 seconds in the under 20 men’s 50 metres and he completed the 50 metres hurdles in 9.3 seconds.

Jack Kinnear clocked 7.8 seconds in the under 17 men’s 50 metres and he also cleared 4.70 metres in the long jump.

In the under 15 boys 50 metres, Liam Greaves finished in 6.9 seconds.

Niamh Atkinson recorded 7.9 seconds in the under 15 girls 50 metres, 11.0 seconds in the 50 metres hurdles and 3.75 metres in the long jump.

In the under 13 girls 50 metres, Alice Dolman was the first Pontefract finisher in 8.1 seconds, closely followed by Raya Welsh (8.5), Isobel Sutton (8.6) and Katie Kelly (8.7).

In the 50 metres hurdles, Isobel finished in 11.7 seconds, just ahead of Katie, who clocked 11.9 seconds. In the long jump, Katie recorded 3.30 metres, just ahead of Alice (3.26) and Isobel (3.05).

In the under 11 girls 50 metres, the Pontefract girls all finished in close order with Francesca Ward the quickest in 8.5 seconds followed by Julia Rutkowska (8.6), Madison Toddington (8.9) and Emily Kelly (8.9).

In the long jump, Julia cleared 2.90 metres, just ahead of Madison (2.83) and Francesca (2.71). Julia stepped up an age group to compete in the under 13 girls 50 metres hurdles and she finished in a very creditable 11.3 seconds.
