Cameron Howes of Pontefract Athletics Club had a notable victory in the under 15 boys high jump at Saturday’s Northern Athletics Indoor Open Meeting in Sheffield.
In doing so, Cameron equalled his personal best and club record of 1.65 metres.
He also finished second in the 60 metres hurdles in 10.60 seconds and in the long jump event, he achieved five metres exactly.
Maisie Heptinstall was making her first appearance in a Pontefract AC vest and she made it a memorable debut by setting a club record for under 15 girls in the 60 metres with 8.83 seconds.
Maisie also did 3.91 metres in the long jump.
Rebecca Bell set a club record for under 15 girls in the 60 metres hurdles with 10.96 seconds.
She also ran well to clock 21.79 in the 150 metres and she recorded 7.44 metres in the shot putt.
Abigail Clegg was another Pontefract athlete in record breaking form.
Abigail clocked 48.14 seconds in the 300 metres to set a club record for under 15 girls.
She also clocked 21.98 seconds in the 150 metres.
Despite being hampered with a hamstring injury, Jasmine Bate still managed to clear 1.30 metres in the under 15 girls high jump and 4.15 metres in the long jump.
Will Carter clocked 10.95 seconds in the under 20 men’s 60 metres hurdles.
He also achieved 5.40 metres in the long jump.
In last Sunday’s West Yorkshire Cross Country League fixture at Nunroyd Park, Yeadon, Faye Lightowler finished 14th out of just over 100 in the senior women’s race.
This was the last of the four races in this league for 2015 and Faye ended the season in second place overall in the women’s over 35 age group.
James Capon produced his best ever finishing position in this league when he finished 30th out of more than 150 in the senior men’s race.
Niamh Atkinson came 24th out of 61 in the under 11 girls race.
