CASTLEFORD RUFC under 15s girls won 29-22 at Northumberland club Ryton in the North of England Area semi final after recovering superbly from a poor start.

They were quickly 12-0 down but cut the half-time gap to five points when Fran Goldthorp powered over and Sophie Fairhurst converted.

Goldthorp’s second try put Cas level and they snatched the lead when Hollie Dodd went over and Fairhurst goaled.

Goldthorp’s third try put Cas 24-12 ahead.

Ryton hit back but Castleford’s Eunae Harrison then burrowed her way over for a vital score and Ryton’s last minute touchdown was too late to deny Cas.

Castleford under 13 girls hosted Pontefract, Moortown/Old Brodleians/Cleckheaton, West Park Leeds, Sandal and Old Crossleyans in their second festival.

Members of Castleford’s under 18s squad were on hand to officiate and act as timekeepers.

Castleford’s first pool game was against the combined Moortown/Old Brodleians/Cleckheaton side and tries from Kelsi Killick, Milly Toole and Millie Gould gave them a 3-0 win.

Castleford were pipped 2-1 by Sandal with Charlotte Ball scoring for the home side.

Cas beat Old Crossleyans in their final match with tries from Abbie Millward, Kendal Rumford, Chloe Smith, Toole and Killick.

Castleford under 15s and under 18s play in the area finals at Ripon today (Sunday) as an eliminator for the RFU National Cup.
