Castleford RUFC staged a highly successful junior sevens tournament on Sunday, involving their own teams against sides from Bramley, Yanbury, Wath, Barnsley, Scunthorpe and Old Brodleians competing across three different age groups.
There was also a predominantly Castleford based Barbarians team as well, which included players from other clubs. All the teams played each other in a round robin format before finals took place to determine the champions.
Castleford did well to finish with two champion teams and a finalist. The under 14s and 16s finals were both contested by Castleford and Wath with Wath winning a closely fought under 14s final and Cas taking a thrilling under 16s decider. In the under 13s, Castleford beat old rivals Bramley in another keenly contested final.
This was the inaugural tournament and such was the success it will be held again next season with the aim to make it bigger and better, and include senior action on the weekend as well.
