Pontefract pool star Darren ‘Dynamite’ Appleton will aim to help Europe retain the Mosconi Cup when they take on USA on London next week.

The 23rd running of pool’s biggest event is at the Alexandra Palace from Tuesday to Friday.

Appleton’s is in Europe’s five-man team as they attempt to win the crown for a seventh successive time.

The 40-year-old has won numerous world-class pool tournaments in an illustrious career including the first WPA World Ten-ball Championship in 2008.

It will be Appleton’s eighth Mosconi Cup appearance.

Since making his debut on the losing side in Las Vegas in 2009, he has been on every winning team since.

Europe captain Marcus Chamat went for Appleton as one of his two wildcard picks for this year’s team.

Said Chamat: “Darren’s passion and heart for our team is second to none. That coupled with his matchplay and ability to handle the pressure make him a great choice.”
