‘Dynamite’ helps Europe lead on opening day in Vegas

Pontefract pool star Darren ‘Dynamite’ Appleton helped Europe take a 3-2 lead against USA on the opening day of the annual Mosconi Cup in Las Vegas last night.

USA levelled at 2-2 when Appleton and Albin Ouschan lost 5-1 to Shane Van Boening and Skyler Woodward in a doubles match.

But Appleton ensured Europe ended the day ahead when he beat Van Boening 5-1 in a singles in the final match of the day.

Appleton is in Europe’s five-man team as they attempt to win the crown for a sixth successive time.

It is Appleton’s seventh Mosconi Cup appearance. Since making his debut in the losing side in 2009, he has been on every winning team since.
