Fryston Angling Club members made their first trip of the season to Pollington’s Viking Fishery on Sunday to fish the 33-peg Hawk Pond.
The fishery is the home of Fryston’s Winter league, giving the regular winter fishermen an edge over the less hardy regulars.
The 23 strong turn out had much to look forward to with the weather warming up and good reports of the previous day’s match but unfortunately the fish had other ideas, leading to poor weights for everyone.
The best catch of the day went to Colin Finney with just 32lb 14oz. Running a close second was Ray Evans with 26lb 10oz.
Third was Dean Barrat with 25lb 8oz. Section winners were G Gill with 23lb 9oz and L Roberts with 21lb 4oz. The silver peg winner was F Bak. The golden peg was not won and rolls over for another week.
The first, second and fourth placed anglers in Saturday’s regular open match on Viking Fishery’s Deer pond all used maggot.
The winner Richard Scott landed 67lb 1 oz from peg seven. Ken Squires was second with 62lb 12oz, Tommy Davis was third with 51lb 5oz and Laurie Tones was fourth with 47lb 2oz. This Saturday’s open is on Hawk pond. To book a place ring 01405 860764. Also on Saturday, Floorstore AC’s club match on Hawk pond was won by Karl Richardson with 85lb 15oz, caught on pellet across to the island and down the side.
