WHITWOOD Golf Club staged an invitation day last Sunday.
With it being the 30th anniversary of the club opening, it was decided to incorporate anniversary celebrations into the day.
The club committee organised a memorable event with 13 teams of four players each playing for a cash prize. This year’s club captain John Smith’s chosen charity is Candelighters.
Sunday’s event raised £200 for the charity.
Club manager Kevin Moore said: “A big thanks goes to all who helped in organising the event and all those supporting the club.”
The Whitwood course, which was constructed on the old Whitwood Colliery site, opened for business in June, 1987.
The par 72 6,298 yards nine-hole course is built on undulating ground.
The club has gone from strength to strength since its management was officially handed over to Groundwork Wakefield Trust in July, 2012.
The club are currently constructing new tees which are set to be in use next spring. It will give the course 18 tees.
The club also has a nine-hole footgolf course which is the first in the Wakefield district.
