Match blighted by bad weather

FRYSTON Angling Club’s second visit of the season to Pine Lakes Fishery, Thorne, was again blighted by rain and cold conditions which kept the weights well down.

The winner was James Copley on end peg 15. Using pellet and maggot on the hook, he got broke off by a large carp but still managed to land a 11lb 9oz.common carp, a contender for largest fish of the season. It added to the ide in his net, bringing the total weight to 25lb 4oz.

Steve Birch struggled against high winds to present his bait at 14 metres. His persistence earned him second place with 19lb 6oz.

James Burke put together a mixed bag of carp and ide for third spot with 15lb 12oz just pushing Steve Varley into a section only win with his 15lb 2oz. Dave Lumb took the second section win with 9lb 10oz. S Lupton won the silver peg draw.

Saturday’s open match on Hawk Pond at Pollington’s Viking Fishery was won by Castleford’s Dave Cheetham with 26lb 5oz. Second was Knottingley’s Fran Williamson (22lb 10oz) and third Mick Lyons (17lb 5oz).
