Glasshoughton’s David Thomas won his second individual title this season when he beat clubmate Rob Lloyd 21-11 in Castleford and District Crown Green Bowling Association’s YMCA-sponsored gents merit tournament at Castleford’s Queens Park.

With some excellent bowling all day, Thomas never faltered in his determination to win the event.

He defeated Stuart Thompson 21-8 in the semi-finals, having seen off home bowler Sam Waite 21-3 in the quarter-finals.

Lloyd beat home bowler Mark Harrap 21-10 in the semi-finals after overcoming Mark Brain 21-12 in the previous round.

The ladies YMCA-sponsored event took place at the same time.

Glasshoughton’s Amanda Hagen defeated teammate Maureen Chambers 21-11 in the final.

Like the gents competition, the ladies final featured a superb exhibition of bowling with Amanda leading across the green and not leaving Maureen any room to score a point.

Amanda defeated Pat Walton of Methley 21-5 in a one-sided semi-final while Maureen beat Allerton Bywater’s Nichola Eustace 21-11.
