Pontefract Athletics Club’s James Capon recorded a personal best and a senior men’s club record of 16 minutes 49 seconds for the 5K distance when winning Saturday’s Pontefract Park Run ahead of a field of 242 runners.
He was almost a minute clear of the second finisher and it was the seventh time this year that James had crossed the finish line in first position.
In Sunday’s Norton nine-mile race, with well over 500 runners taking part, the Pontefract Club had three of the first 15 finishers in the women’s race.
Faye Banks finished seventh in 60 minutes 49 seconds, Angela Hannon came ninth in 62-03 and Christine McCarthy was 15th in 63-24.
Scott Daly was the club’s first finisher overall in 38th position with a time of 58-06.
Michael Flaherty clocked 63-01 with Alan Boyd finishing in 68-08 and Rob Stones in 73-21.
Emily Plimmer finished second in the under 11 girls race over a distance of 1,500 metres in Sunday’s PECO Cross Country League.
