Will Carter of Pontefract Athletics Club won the silver medal in the under 20 men’s shot putt in last weekend’s Yorkshire Track and Field Championships at Cudworth with a throw of 9.07 metres.
He also won the bronze medal in the triple jump with a leap of 10.98 metres into a fairly stiff headwind.
Earlier in the competition, Will had been just outside the medals with fourth place in the javelin with a throw of 34.68 metres.
He also recorded 5.69 metres in the long jump.
Cameron Howes was also in medal winning form. He took the bronze medal in the under 13 boys long jump with 4.26 metres.
Cameron also reached the final of the 100 metres, finishing eighth in 14.73 after clocking 14.48 in his heat.
Despite being eliminated in the heats of the under 15 girls 800 metres, Amy Brain set a club record of two minutes 37.59 seconds. Amy also recorded 4.18 metres in the long jump.
Rebecca Bell had a similar experience to Amy in the under 13 girls 800 metres. Rebecca was also eliminated in the heats, but she had a fine run to set a club record for under 13 girls with 2:38.07.
Callum Brain just missed out on a medal in the under 17 men’s shot putt, finishing fourth with 10.82 metres.
Sophie Gilbert recorded a personal best of 4.25 metres in the under 20 women’s long jump.
Kye Evans clocked 12.64 in the under 17 men’s 100 metres and 25.71 in the 200 metres.
In last Wednesday’s West Yorkshire Track and Field League meeting at Wakefield, Cameron Howes finished equal first in the under 13 boys high jump with a clearance of 1.40 metres.
Cameron was also second in the 150 metres, setting a club record of 21.64 seconds.
Isabelle Stones was also in record breaking form. She finished second in the under 11 girls 75 metres, setting a club record of 11.13 seconds.
Isabelle was also second in the long jump with 3.91 metres.
Emily Plimmer was third in the under 11 girls long jump with 3.44 metres.
Rebecca Bell came second in the under 13 girls discus with 14.09 metres and Sam Schofield was third in the Under 11 boys shot putt with 5.37 metres.
Maria Schofield finished second in the under 15 girls discus with 19.67 metres and Sue Brain came fourth in the senior ladies shot putt, setting a club record of 6.46 metres.
On the road running side, Andy Masterman finished 17th out of 1,299 in last week’s Beverley 10K, setting a club record of 36 minutes 10 seconds.
The previous week, Andy and his wife Julie competed in the 12 hour challenge at Catton Park in Staffordshire, where they won the mixed pairs category.
They both completed 14 laps of a 10K course, which is about 87 miles, in 11 hours 27 minutes.
In last week’s Pontefract Park Run, Angela Hannon finished second in the women’s race in 20 minutes 17 seconds. Christine McCarthy was third in 20-48.
In the Tadcaster Triathlon, held on May Day Bank Holiday Monday, Michael Flaherty finished 11th out of 413 with Angela Hannon taking second place in the women’s race and 31st overall.
