Pontefract athletes end season in style

Pontefract AC athletes brought the outdoor season to an end with some excellent performances.

In the Grimsby Open Meeting, Abigail Clegg finished third in the under 13 girls 200 metres, setting a club record of 29.2 seconds.

Jasmine Bate and Rebecca Bell finished joint second in the under 13 girls high jump with 1.40 metres, which was a personal best for Rebecca. Jasmine also finished second in the shot putt with a personal best of 8.79 metres and Rebecca was third in that event with 8.16 metres.

In the under 15 boys age group, Cameron Howes won the high jump with 1.64 metres and Robert Bate won the 100 metres in 12.4 seconds. Robert also won the shot putt with 8.25 metres and he finished third in the 200 metres in 26.2 seconds.

In Sunday’s Yorkshire Veteran’s Track and Field Championships at Cleckheaton, Kevin Waite won the gold medal in the men’s over 50s 400 metres, setting a club record of 65.4 seconds.

One week earlier, in the English Schools Combined Events Championships at Bedford, Will Carter finished 25th out of 36 in a very high standard senior boys decathlon with 4378 points.

In the North East Counties Open Pentathlon, Rebecca Bell finished third out of 29 in the under 13 girls age group, setting an outdoor club record of 2168 points.

In the Spenborough Open Meeting, Richard Howes won the senior men’s javelin, setting a club record of 38.67 metres. He was third in the long jump with 5.07 metres.

Cameron Howes won the under 15 boys high jump with 1.61 metres and was third in the 80 metres hurdles in 13.8 seconds.

Robert Bate won the under 15 boys shot putt with 8.56 metres. He also came second in the 100 metres in 13.2 seconds and third in the 200 metres in 26.3 seconds. Maria Schofield won the under 15 girls shot putt with 11.05 metres and finished second in the hammer with 39.09 metres.

Rebecca Bell came second in the under 13 girls shot putt with 8.30 metres and third in the high jump with 1.35 metres. She also finished third in the final of the 150 metres in 21.8 seconds after winning her heat in 21.6 seconds.

Jasmine Bate was second in the under 13 girls long jump with 4.38 metres and second in the discus with 22.46 metres. Abigail Clegg finished third in the under 13 girls 800 metres in 2 minutes: 41.6 seconds.

On the road running side, Scott Daly finished 13th in the Isle of Axholme Half Marathon with a personal best of 1 hour; 24 minutes: 6 seconds.
