Pontefract racecourse’s annual ‘80s Night’ race meeting promises to even better than usual in 2016.
Bucks Fizz were one of the top selling British pop groups of the 1980s and Cheryl, Mike and Jay, formerly of Bucks Fizz, have confirmed they will play a greatest hits set after racing at the Pontefract meeting on Friday, May 27.
The band sold more than 15 million records.
They had 11 UK top 20 singles and three number ones - Land of Make Believe, Making Your Mind Up and My Camera Never Lies.
Making Your Mind Up won the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest and went on to be number one in nine countries across the world.
For previous 80s Nights, racegoers have paid the same price they would have paid in the 80s and the same will apply in 2016.
There are 4,000 discounted tickets available to those who book in advance and the Premier Enclosure (including concert) will be just £15 while the Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure (including concert) will be £10.
Richard Hammill, Pontefract’s assistant manager, said: “We’re all really excited about the event and looking forward to welcoming Cheryl, Mike and Jay to the racecourse.”
Racegoers who do not book in advance and arrive on the night will pay the normal admission prices.
Tickets will go on sale at 9am on Friday, November 27, via the racecourse website www.pontefract-races.co.uk or by calling 01977-781307.
