Pontefract’s Premier Squash League Division A side, without virus-stricken former world number one James Willstrop, lost 5-0 at Birmingham last night.

Pontefract were led by Indian number one Saurav Ghosal, for eight years a Pontefract player.

Talented Malsaysian Eain Yow and Patrick Rooney were both available.

Birmingham clinched maximum points after Jaymie Haydocks recovered from two games down to beat Ghosal 3-2.

Pontefract’s Katie Smith lost 3-0 to Sarah-Jane Perry (1-11, 2-11, 3-11).

Sam Wileman was beaten 3-1 by Miles Jenkins (6-11, 2-11, 12-10, 9-11).

Patrick Rooney suffered a 3-0 defeat against Joel Makin (9-11, 8-11, 6-11).

Yow was edged out 3-2 by Chris Ryder (11-9, 4-11, 11-4, 11-7, 7-11).

In the top-string match, Ghosal won the first two games 11-5 and 11-7 but Haydocks came out on top by winning the next three 11-6, 11-8 and 11-8.
