KNOTTINGLEY boxer Poppi Burton achieved her seventh win of the season in great style.
Burton (pictured), who boxes for Knottingley’s SYD Ringside Club, fought Shannon Dowd in Derby in front of a hostile crowd. But her speed, power and skill was far too much for her Derbyshire opponent.
Coaches Peter Carragher and Steve Heale were delighted with her display. She dominated the first round and continued the excellent work in the second.
Burton won when Dowd failed to come out for the third round.
Burton has been selected to travel to the Alexander Palace, London, this weekend to represent England in a tournament against two times Irish champion Neve Ball from Trojan Boxing Club, Ireland.
Ball is a very experienced boxer who lost by one point last year to the world’s number one from Sweden.
The Knottingley club are looking for sponsorship to help Burton fight in Sweden in November against the world’s best junior females.
Knottingley’s Casey Ponsonby was in action on Friday at Doncaster.
Ponsonby, aged 11, gave a great display in his second fight for SYD against a Rotherham opponent, but controversially lost on points.
