Sport Relief mile staged at Pontefract RUFC

PONTEFRACT Athletics Club and Pontefract Rugby Union Club are joining forces to organise the Sport Relief mile at Pontefract RUFC’s Moor Lane ground on Sunday, March 25.

Anyone who wishes to enter the Sport Relief Mile can do so by going on line at

Runners will have a choice of entering the one mile, three miles or six miles.

The event will open at noon and the races will start from 12.30 pm onwards. Pontefract Athletics Club will be using the event to attract people to a running group at the club under the Run England project. Details of this will be made available at the event.

Meanwhile in the Dewsbury 10K, James Capon of Pontefract Athletics Club had an excellent run to finish 57th out of 587 in a personal best time of 36 minutes, 41 seconds.

Christine McCarthy (pictured) continued her outstanding form by finishing 17th in the women’s race and second woman over 50.

Her time of 41 minutes 51 seconds was well inside the national standard on the world association of veteran athletes tables and calculations.

Michael Flaherty had a very good run to finish in 39-13 and David Kidd recorded a personal best of 41-33.

Club chairman Cyril Jones, now competing in the men’s over 65 category, had a solid run to finish in 51-55.

In the Norton nine-mile race, Michael Walker of Pontefract AC finished in 63-50.
