EIGHT YEAR OLD Evie Parkin from Pontefract is making a name for herself as a highly promising tennis player.

She started playing the sport when she was three and joined Goole Tennis Centre when she was four.

In November, 2016, she played her first mini tournament on the LTA Winter Circuit at the age of seven years, three months and she was well and truly beaten in each game. However, it was a different story in 2017 and last month, in York, she won her seventh tournament of the year. Even more impressive was the fact that she had only moved to the second mini tennis grading recently and it was only her third tournament at this level. She won six of her seven games including a close-fought final in which she won the deciding third set 11-9.

Evie, who always shows great sportsmanship, has been spotted by five coaches - three of whom are unconnected to her home club at Goole - as someone to watch in the future, especially if she continues in the sport through her teenage years.
