Talented Natalie sets three new club records at Scunthorpe

PONTEFRACT Athletics Club’s Natalie Carr was in record breaking form on Sunday.

She set three new club records in the National Young Athletes League Northern Division One fixture at Scunthorpe.

Natalie started the day by finishing second in the under 17 ladies 80 metres hurdles in 13.7 seconds, improving the Pontefract club record by a massive 1.4 seconds.

She then finished third in the 100 metres, enhancing the club record to 13.6 seconds. Her third club record came in the 200 metres when she finished second in 28.4 seconds.

In the under 13 girls events, Maria Schofield finished second in the shot putt with 6.47 metres, third in the 70 metres hurdles in 14.8 seconds and fourth equal in the high jump with 1.20 metres.

Catherine Wiltshire, making her first appearance for the club, also did well in the high jump with 1.15 metres.

Amy Brain ran well to finish third in the 800 metres in two minutes, 58.9 seconds.

She also did a personal best in the long jump to finish fourth with 3.33 metres.

Faye Burnley finished fourth in the 150 metres in 24.7 seconds. She also did 16.3 seconds in the 70 metres hurdles and 3.17 metres in the long jump.

In the under 15 girls events, Lois Whitaker was third equal in the high jump with 1.35 metres. She also recorded 3.81 metres in the long jump. Jessica Key came third in the discus with 15.81 metres.

In the under 15 boys events, Lewis Schofield was in good form in the throwing events, finishing second in the javelin with 26.28 metres and second in the discus with 17.44 metres. He also did well in the long jump with 4.37 metres.

Kye Evans also produced a good throw in the shot putt, finishing second with 7.68 metres. In the 200 metres he was fourth in 27.1 seconds. Rowan Gilday had a good run to finish second in the 800 metres in 2 minutes 49.3 seconds.

William Carter was third in the under 17 men’s javelin with 22.15 metres and third in the triple jump with 9.51 metres.

In the team competition, Pontefract finished fifth out of the six competing clubs. The final match scores were: 1 Hallamshire Harriers (645 points) 2 Lincoln Wellington (472) 3 Scunthorpe (403), 4 Cleethorpes (361) 5 Pontefract (228), 6 Longwood Harriers (217).

In Saturday’s Pontefract Park Run, Scott Daly finished 11th out of 128, clocking 19 minutes 16 seconds for the 5K distance. Michael Flaherty finished 13th in 19-24.

The previous week, Christine McCarthy won the women’s race for the second week in a row in 21 minutes, 27 seconds, with Scott Daly finishing fourth out of 92 in 19-16.
