SMIRTHWAITE bowler Nathan Webster won his second title this season when he beat Darryl Harrap 21-18 in the final of Castleford and District Crown Green Bowling Association’s YMCA gents individual handicapped tournament at Castleford’s Queens Park on Sunday.
Harrap led for three quarters of the match until Webster went in front 16-15 and retained his advantage.
Both bowlers had tough battles in the semi-finals.
Webster pipped former winner Stuart Thompson 21-20 and Harrap overcame Wayne Kemp 21-19.

Amanda Hagen was denied her third title this year when she was edged out 21-20 by Karen Portman in the final of the YMCA ladies individual competition at Queens Park.
Hagen took an early lead and was ahead for three quarters of the match before Portman grabbed a 16-15 advantage.
Hagen fought back to edge 20-19 ahead but Portman snatched a thrilling win.

June Johnson won Castleford Veterans Bowling Association’s Peter Holloran-sponsored ladies merit tournament at Rothwell BC.
She beat her Rothwell clubmate Lyn Dye 21-20 in the final. Johnson defeated last year’s winner Beryl Kirkbride, also of Rothwell, 21-10 in the semi-finals. Dye overcame Garforth Rec bowler Margaret West 21-15 in the semis.
