Pontefract Squash Club’s James Willstrop lost to old rival Nick Matthew in the final of the National Championships in Manchester last weekend.
Matthew won a record fifth national championship and prevented Willstrop lifting the title for the third time.
Matthew won the first game 11-9 and then dominated the second, winning 11-3.
Willstrop, who took a three-minute injury break in the interval, also lost the third game 11-3.
Willstrop (pictured) said: “All credit to Nick.
“He put me under more pressure physically than anyone has for a long time.
“I don’t know whether it was the accumulation of tough matches or if I’m just not good enough physically at the moment to deal with what he always throws at you but he fully deserves his fifth title.”
