Rugby League Live have claimed the Wire, who will be coached by Daryl Powell next year, are reportedly 'closing in' on Holmes, who has only represented Castleford during his club career.

Holmes has made over 200 appearances for the Tigers during 12 seasons at Wheldon Road but if reports are to be believed, 2021 could be his last year with his hometown team.

Powell has been head coach at Castleford for eight years but has agreed a three-year contract with Warrington from 2022.

He will be replaced by former Hull FC boss and two-time Challenge Cup winning coach Lee Radford when the 2021 campaign comes to a close.

Reports elsewhere claim that Peter Mata'utia is also being lined up by the Wolves with the Tigers set to take on Warrington in the Challenge Cup semi-final next month.
