Castleford Tigers keen to build on win over Wakefield Trinity
DARYL POWELL hopes his Castleford Tigers side can use last week’s derby win over Wakefield Trinity as a catalyst to reignite their league form.
The Tigers ended a four-game losing run in Super League with their 15th-straight victory over rivals Wakefield last Wednesday.
They face a tougher assignment tomorrow tonight in league leaders Catalans Dragons, who have lost just one of their nine league games in 2021.
“It was an important game to win. There is always a little bit of pressure around that,” reflected Powell of the win over Wakefield.
“If we can build momentum, that is something we have spoken about quite a lot, that will be important.”
Castleford will be without Paul McShane Peter Mata’utia and Suaia Matagi tonight as the trio are all poised to take part in tomorrow’s fixture between England and the Combined Nations All Stars.
Powell has only been able to name a 20-man squad to face the Dragons, as he contends with the international call-ups and injuries.
McShane is in line to earn his first international cap, just a few months before the 2021 Rugby League World Cup gets underway.
“We will be without Paul McShane, so that will be another adjustment to our spine,” added Powell.
“International games are what they are.”
England versus the Combined Nations will be shown live on Sky Sports on Friday night.
