Featherstone Rovers' Dane Chisholm hopes to renew partnership with Leeds Rhinos dual-reg half-back Callum McLelland
Dane Chisholm feels that Featherstone Rovers got what they needed from their final pre-season outing against Leeds Rhinos.
Rovers won 34-22 against a young Leeds side as they prepare for their opening game of the Championship season at Batley Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon.
Chisholm helped guide Featherstone into the play-offs last season after joining from rivals Bradford Bulls on loan before signing a permanent contract.
“I think it was just what we needed, leading into round one against Batley next week” said Chisholm.
“The young Leeds boys are full of energy and they are structurally a really good team.”
Chisholm came up against one of his half-back partners from last season, Callum McLelland, who spent parts of last campaign at Rovers on dual-registration.
And although he enjoyed the battle, Chisholm hopes to see McLelland back at the LD Nutrition Stadium in 2020.
He added: “He has got a very bright future.
“I think he was a stand-out, I can’t wait to get back playing with him. He is a really good player.
“We balanced out well with each other last year. I am not sure what is happening this week with the team, but if he is here it will be awesome to play with him again.”
Chisholm is expecting a tough forward battle on the Mount Pleasant slope this Sunday.
Rovers have not lost to the Bulldogs since the 2016 qualifiers, when they were beaten 11-10 in Batley.
Chisholm added: “We have got a bit of a hill but Batley’s is a bit bigger.
“I am sure it is going to be a bash-a-thon, so it will be the forwards who will be getting a bit dirty next week.
“Hopefully I will be kicking well and we will be finishing our sets really well.”
