Featherstone Rovers forward Brad Day facing rest of the season on the sidelines

The former Batley Bulldogs player sustained the injury in Sunday’s win over Bradford Bulls.

He sat out the curtailed 2020 season after picking up a knee injury in pre-season but has been ever-present for Rovers this campaign.

Featherstone already have a number of squad members out of action due to injury but head coach James Webster hopes the injury will not be as bad as first feared.

“It doesn’t look good for Brad, it might be a ruptured achilles. Which is devastating for him,” said Webster.

“He has played every minute of every game and he has done fantastic for us. He was starting to get back to his form of 2019 after his knee injury last year.

“That is devastating news if that is correct but hopefully that won’t be the case.”

Thomas Minns was withdrawn in the second half of the victory over Bradford and Webster revealed the centre has been playing through an ankle injury over the last number of weeks.

He added: “Minns has had an ankle injury for a while but we are really short in the outside backs with Kris Welham out and Ben Blackmore suspended.”

Webster is not expecting to welcome many players back as Featherstone head to Dewsbury Rams this weekend.

Dale Ferguson is back in individual training while Brett Ferres is running again.

Forward James Harrison is in contention to return but no other injured players are likely to be fit. Webster said: “James Harrison might play next week, which is fantastic, Dale Ferguson is training again but by himself and Brett Ferres is starting to do some running but I don’t expect too many back next week.”
