Hull KR were ideal pre-season test for Castleford Tigers, says Adam Milner
HULL KR were an ideal pre-season test for Castleford Tigers, believes Adam Milner as they prepare for their Super League opener against Warrington Wolves on March 28.
The Tigers recorded a hard-fought victory over the Robins in Milner’s testimonial game, as the forward celebrated his long service to the Castleford club.
Daryl Powell’s side led 18-0 at the break at Hull College Craven Park, thanks to two tries from Jake Trueman and one from new signing Niall Evalds.
Jez Litten got the hosts on the board early in the second half before Michael Shenton hit back for the Tigers.
Tries from Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Ryan Hall and George Lawless then cut the deficit to four points, but Shenton crossed for his second to put the Tigers out of reach.
“It was a special day, it was good first and foremost to play some rugby again and to get the win makes it extra special,” said Milner.
“It was good to see all the boys out there with my shirt on.
“It is a day that I will log down in the memory book and cherish for the rest of my playing career.
“Hull KR have got threats all over the field and they play a particular brand of rugby that means you have got to keep honest. They have got some big forwards and some strong outside backs.
“We were impressed with our performance in the first half. There were a few changes in the second half but it was a really impressive hit out from us.
"With two weeks to go, there is still plenty to build on.”
Supporters purchased a stream to watch the friendly, with Covid-19 restrictions meaning the contest took place behind closed doors. Supporters could return in limited capacity by May 17 and Milner looks forward to the day the Mend-A-Hose Jungle is packed out with supporters again, which could happen for their home game against Catalans Dragons in June.
He added: “It is quite overwhelming, all the people that have tuned in.
“I would have loved a packed Jungle, but I appreciate each and every person who bought a stream. The game has not been the same without the fans.
“We are certainly looking forward to a packed house at the Jungle, it will be a special occasion when that comes.”
