Pontefract athlete Ava excels at Cleckheaton

PONTEFRACT Athletics Club's Ava Pickard, in her first year in the under 11 girls age group, had an excellent run in last Sunday's West Yorkshire Cross Country League race at Cleckheaton.

Ava finished 11th out of 69 with Julia Rutkowska 28th, Katie Kelly 38th and Isobel Sutton 57th.

In the under 11 boys race, Woody Pearson ran well to finish 23rd out of 82. Charles Fryer came 58th with Alfie Conroy 60th and Thomas Elswood 75th.

In the under 13 girls race, Niamh Atkinson had a good run to finish 30th out of 69 with Alice Dolman finishing 60th.

In the under 13 boys race, Logan Askham came 50th out of 69.

In the senior women’s race, Faye Lightowler came in 10th out of well over 100 with Christine McCarthy 76th.

In the senior men’s race, Scott Daly recorded his best finishing position so far in this league.

Daley crossed the line in 65th place out of nearly 200 runners.

David Kidd finished 102nd with James Grant 125th and Martin Elswood 139th.

In last Saturday’s Northern Athletics Indoor Open Meeting at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, Harrison Marsh was the quickest under 13 boy in the 60 metres sprint.

He set a club record of 8.74 seconds and he also recorded a personal best in the long jump with 3.92 metres.

Will Carter clocked 19.74 seconds in the senior men’s 150 metres and he also recorded 9.09 metres in the shot putt.
