The Five Towns Quiz League is aiming to recruit new teams for the 2015/16 season.

It will be the league’s 25th season. It was founded by local quizzers Simon Curtis and Harry Beevers after holding an inaugural meeting at the former Parkside Hotel, Pontefract, in September, 1991.

It started with 18 teams and culminated in a first finals’ night at the Bridge Inn, Whitwood.

For the last 25 years, the league has managed to maintain team numbers at round that level. They currently have 16 teams divided into two divisions of eight, with promotion and relegation at the end of each season.

The current Division One champions are Flanagan’s Masons of the Masons Arms in Ackworth and they and the other Division One teams will be joined this year by Featherstone Hotel Phoenix, last season’s Division Two Champions.

The FTQL covers a wide area from South Elmsall in the south to Kippax in the north, with all the other current member teams falling somewhere in between.

Organisers run Division One and Division Two competitions and are proud of the fact that they cater for all levels of quizzing ability.

They also run a Knockout Cup competition, a Plate Knockout and a Handicap Cup.

The league also has a charity season-opener night and two highly popular finals’ nights at the end of the season, the most recent of which took place at Kippax Ex-Service Club in June.

The league runs on Monday nights at 8.30pm, with- matches last between one hour and an hour and a half, from October to May/June. The annual general meeting will take place on Monday, September 7.
