Castleford Tigers have announced that 10 players have signed two-year professional contracts with the club, including seven who were on the Tigers’ Scholarship.
Lee Alderson, a back row or centre, joins from his amateur club Stanley Rangers, England Academy squad member James Brown, a pivot or full-back, joins from Lock Lane and centre Nathanial Callaghan is from Hunslet Warriors.
Three players have signed from Milford Marlins – Niadh Currie-Clark, a front row, Daniel Sowerby, a pivot, and Brandon Douglas, who was on the Bradford Bulls Scholarship, is a front or back row.
Back row Brandon Westerman is the cousin of former Castleford Tigers and current Hull FC player Joe Westerman and joins from Castleford Panthers, while hooker Ryan Westerman, who is no relation to either, joins from Stanley Wildcats.
Towering prop Will Maher enjoyed a successful trial period at the club towards the end of the 2013 season and signs from the Cumbria Regional Academy while Brad Day, a second row who has represented England at youth level, has signed from Wakefield Wildcats.
Tigers chief executive Steve Gill said: “I’d like to offer a warm welcome to all of the players who have signed professional contracts with the club.
“We are very proud of our history of developing some of the best talent in Super League and these young men are the latest to have the opportunity to work their way up to that standard.
“Our young players have all the tools and education they need to compliment their undoubted potential and we’re excited to work with them and help them achieve their aspirations.”
