Daryl Powell reckons his forwards will have to front up if Castleford Tigers are to maintain their progress in the Betfred Super League with a victory over Catalans Dragons.
The Tigers head coach identified the French’s club’s pack as their main threat ahead of Sunday’s clash at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.
Powell told the Express: “They’ve just got good players across the field, but the pack is the stand-out for me. If they ramp up on you then they can be very, very dangerous.
“It’s important that we front up in the middle of the field. We’ve got an outstanding pack ourselves and they are going to need to get over the top of Catalans this week.
“Their forward pack is big. It looks like Greg Bird won’t be playing this week and he’s been a real stand-out for them, but Sam Moa is a real handful and in the pack they’ve got people like Simon in there who like to offload.
“Langi looks a threat at half-back, he’s got a real sharp step, and they’ve just put Tony Gigot into half-back as well, who’s a pretty good player.
On Catalans’ form this season, Powell added: “Catalans have been pretty disappointing, but they showed some shoots of life last week when they built a big lead against Wigan.
“But Wigan came up with an outstanding performance for 20-25 minutes and they couldn’t handle it.
“The key for us is to make sure we see the worst of them and not their best because they can play, particularly if you sit back and allow them to come on to you.”
