CASTLEFORD Tigers produced a battling display, but were unable to end their disappointing season on a successful note at Hull’s KC Stadium.

The Tigers were still in contention at 14-6 after a much improved defensive display in the opening half, but were ultimately second best as Hull FC ran out 36-10 winners.

Willie Manu, Tom Briscoe, Richard Horne, Danny Houghton, Mark O'Meley and Chris Green all scored tries for Hull with Jamie Foster kicking six goals.

Two of Cas’s youngsters, Jordan Thompson and Oliver Holmes, replied with tries for the Tigers with Danny Orr, in his last game for the club before retiring, kicking a goal.

Defeat left Castleford in danger of finishing bottom for the first time since 2008 if Widnes can get a win or draw in their final game against Warrington.
