Castleford Tigers boss Daryl Powell wants tomorrow night’s game at Salford to be about his side not about whether their opponents can save themselves from the Middle 8s.

Salford will be desperate for the points as they need to win all three of their remaining games to avoid finishing in the bottom four.

But there is plenty at stake for the Tigers as victory would ensure they finish in the top four at the end of the regular season, thereby earning an extra home game in the Super 8s.

“Salford will be desperate for points, although it may be if Huddersfield win on Thursday night it may be out of the equation for them. But it’s about us.

“Every team’s got its story and Leeds certainly had a big story last week that we needed to get rid of out of our heads. We had to make it about us and it’s the same this week.

“We need to go to Salford and play well. We haven’t been great there the last couple of years so we need to go and play better this week – and take anything out of the equation other than we are going to play our best rugby league and we’re going to be a really tough team this week.

“It’s a great motivation for us that we can clinch a top four spot at the end of the regular season. For us it’s about keeping everything in our hands.

“If we were to win and Hull were to lose in a tough game against St Helens there’s a marked difference between the teams leading towards the last seven games and we can set ourselves a real good platform to go on and do something special this year.”

Castleford look set to have forward Joe Wardle back after he has missed the last three games with a rib injury, but they will be without at least six other first teamers.

“Joe Wardle will potentially be back this week,” confirmed Powell.

“There’s a couple from last week who’ve got niggles so we’ve a couple of doubts, but I’ll keep them to myself at the moment.

“Mike McMeeken will need another week. Ben Roberts is another three or four weeks away potentially and Luke Gale about a month away.”
