Castleford Tigers are aiming to bolster their front row numbers with a new signing after learning that Ryan Boyle is out for the rest of the season.

Head coach Daryl Powell confirmed that Irish international Boyle would not play again in the remainder of the 2014 First Utility Super League season.

The prop forward requires a knee reconstruction surgery after he re-ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in Castleford’s win over Wakefield Wildcats on Good Friday.

Fellow prop Nathan Massey will be also be out for up to two months after having surgery on an ankle injury this week and Dan Fleming is also currently unavailable with a back injury.

Powell explained: “We’re struggling a little bit up front. In terms of big men we are a little bit light.

“Frankie Mariano and Oliver Holmes can play in the middle so we can manage, but there are a few issues.

“We’ll be announcing a new signing in the next couple of days which will strengthen us up a little bit.”
