After climbing into the top eight with victory over Hull FC Castleford Tigers are now gearing up for a testing Easter double-header against two of the top four sides in Super League.

Head coach Daryl Powell is pleased with the recent progress of his side as they have won three of their last four matches, but knows they face a big task to keep that run going against Leeds Rhinos at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle on Friday and away to Warrington Wolves on Monday.

He told the Express: “This Easter period is exceptionally tough and we know we need to be at our best in both games to get anything out of this.

“In both the corresponding games last year we came out with nothing and we need to do better than that.

“We’re looking to be consistent and tough over Easter. You need to have a tough mentality at this time of year and to get something out of the game you have to play well.

“Obviously on Friday it’s a big home game against Leeds and we need to get that right and get that one done first before we start to look to Warrington. But they are both tough games, no question.

Powell would love to put one over his former club, but has been impressed with the form shown by Leeds so far this season.

He said: “Leeds have been outstanding. Defensively they’ve been pretty good, not quite as good as they were at the start of last year, but with the ball they do look sharp.

“They are quick and incisive and they shift the ball to the outside backs, their sets start really quickly and they have good quality players with their footwork and their ability to create opportunities so it’s a challenge for us.

“They’ll try and use it in their favour as motivation that this is the last season for Kevin Sinfield and Jamie Peacock, two icons at the club. But it’s early days in the season yet and we don’t want to get carried away in all of that. We want to dent them this week and to do that we have to play outstandingly well.”
