NEW head coach Ian Millward (pictured) is excited about making new ground in more ways than one when Castleford Tigers open the 2012 Super League season away at Salford City Reds.
Millward’s first competitive game in charge of the Tigers will be at Salford’s new stadium with the Sky Cameras there to witness the historic meeting on Saturday, February 4.
Castleford’s first home game comes a week later when they take on Bradford Bulls on Sunday, February 12 and they then face a tough-looking three games with a trip to France to face Catalan Dragons (February 18) followed by home fixtures against Wigan Warriors (February 26) and 2011 champions Leeds Rhinos (March 2).
Easter will bring the traditional Good Friday clash with Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and a home game on Bank Holiday Monday against St Helens. The return local derby with Wakefield is on August 5 while the two clubs will also meet at the new-look Magic Weekend taking place at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium over the Spring Bank Holiday Weekend.
Tigers boss Millward said: “Fixtures are fixtures from a coaching point of view. But the Salford game is exciting and will be tough because it’s their first game in their new stadium.
“I think from a coaching point of view the first thing you look for is the first home game, that’s against Bradford and I’m really looking forward to that.
“I’m also obviously looking to some of the derby games against Wakefield. But they’re all hard games and we’ve got a few injuries at the moment so my concern is trying to get that corrected.”

The match will give supporters their first opportunity to see the new-look side in action with the game kicking off at 1pm and tickets are priced at £13 for adults and £6 concessions and available online at www.castigers.com or from the club shop in Carlton Lanes Shopping Centre.
