Playmaker Luke Gale reckons winning the League Leaders’ Shield has proved that Castleford Tigers have been consistently the best team in the Super League this year.
In the past some clubs have not valued the trophy with Grand Final victory being seen as the be all and end all, but there is no danger of that in Castleford with fans able to celebrate their first-ever league win – and Gale believes everyone at the club deserves a pat on the back.
“What a feeling,” he said in the immediate aftermath of beating Wakefield Trinity.
“It proves you are the best team over so many rounds, the most consistent team so I’m proud of these boys and proud of Powelly as well. He’s worked hard for this and he’s reformed the club.
“It’s been a long time coming for me and this team. I’ve been here for three years and we’ve been building each year.”
Gale added: “When we were first in, in pre-season it felt just a bit different. We knew we had a special team and it’s come to fruition in winning the League Leaders’.
“When I first came to the club Powelly set a goal for us to be the best Cas team ever. I’m 29 years old so I don’t know whether we are or not, but a lot of people say that.”
