The 2017 League Leaders’ Shield could be presented to Castleford Tigers on Thursday night.
The Betfred Super League Leaders’ Shield will be at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle to be presented to the Tigers should they win or draw against Wakefield Trinity.
Cas are currently ten points clear at the top of the table and only need one point to claim their first Super League title in their 91 year history.
If they get that point on Thursday evening the silverware will be awarded by Rugby Football League chairman Brian Barwick and Betfred’s head of communications Mark Pearson. The presentation will take place straight after the final whistle and will be televised live on Sky Sports.
The League Leaders’ Shield winners will also receive £100,000 prize money and automatically qualify for the 2018 Dacia World Club Series.
Tigers star Grant Millington knows just how important this game could be for his club and this community of Castleford.
He said: “It’s been 91 years that the club has been waiting to finish top of the League, it’s never been done before. For us to manage that and give something like that to those supporters of this club who have never really had anything like that before would be fantastic.
“This is not just for us, obviously you want to win trophies as an individual and as a team but this is for the community of Castleford and I think they really deserve it.”
Tickets for the match are in high demand and currently under 1700 remain available. Castleford are urging fans to buy quickly from the Tigers website or in store at the Tigers Den club shop in Carlton Lanes to avoid disappointment.
